Description
Glycyrrhizin, a primary bioactive ingredient in liquorice root, is 50 times sweeter than sugar. Due to the presence of glycyrrhizin, licorice extracts were frequently used in the medicinal and confectionery sectors. It was discovered that using licorice solution instead of sugar water to gargle prior to surgery decreased postoperative coughing and sore throat. It has been suggested as being beneficial for anemia, cough, bronchitis, urinary tract ulcers, pharyngitis, and hyperdipsia.
